East Slope Lion Plan!!

Writer: Justin Justin

Hello fellow sportsmen and women, Colorado Parks and Wildlife will be hosting 6 in-person meetings across the front range to discuss the East Slope Lion Management Plan. During the development phase of this plan CPW is visiting with the public. Houndsmen attendance at these events is important, there will be discussion about possible changes to the current management model as well as data about depredation and human conflict issues. All must understand one important tidbit about these meeting and the current temperature of the room at CPW. Any proposed hunting ban initiatives are not up for discussion at these meetings. CPW has to remain neutral in the issues surrounding ballot initiatives. Trust me when I say I understand how frustrating it is dealing with the delicate politics of the situation, but if handled properly this East Slope Plan can be a great way for us to have meaningful and intelligent conversations about mountain lions with CPW. If you hunt puma east of the continental divide in the state of Colorado these meetings will be relevant to you. I'd love to see solid numbers of lion hunters attending these meetings and having constructive conversations about these new changes. April season was taken away recently and I believe that is because houndsmen weren't involved in the development stage of that management tool. I think all houndsmen know what we would have changed about April to make that tool fully effective. This is an opportunity now to see what is set to change and how we may effect a positive change for the betterment of the species and our traditions. Below I will include the dates times and locations of all 6 of the in-person meetings. There will also be two virtual meetings held and I will include the link you can take to find those meetings. Any questions, concerns or talking points about these meetings reach out to me and I will gladly go over whatever I can. Thank you, Justin In-person meetings:
